True Chocolate dogs will
DNA [bb].
Chocoate is diluted black,
red, or yellow (diluted by the b allele not the
d allele). There are two alleles. The dominant
full color (B) and the recessive brown (b). Two
copies of brown are needed to dilute black
pigment to brown (chocolate). Diluted black is
dark brown in color, which is what we consider
True Chocolate Color. Diluted Red or
Yellow is considered Chocolate Fawn. They
most often have light gold or yellow eyes.
True Dark Chocolate has no orange color present
in the color base of the dog. The nose,
eyeliner, and pads should be the same dark
color. The eyes are often light gold, green,
blue, or gray. |
